Final Project!

For my final project I took pictures of places I love. Well that is what my project started out as anyway. I had some trouble in the beginning because my pictures weren't very good. They were blah blah blah. I finally figured out a good way to carry out my project. I went rock climbing with the school and I took panos of where we were. I took pictures of where we were going to climb, like the wall and such. Those were my 4 panos. Then I took specific pictures of the rock or area around it. It turned out really cool. I really love all my final 8 pictures for this assignment. The crack one and the rope and my favorite single shots. The first pano with the snow is my favorite. The last 4 pictures that I didn't print wern't my favorite. They just were not as good images as my others.

Final Project (Part 1- Printed)

These are my Panos for my final project.

Final Project (Part 2- Printed)

These are my 4 images that I printed that are not Panos. They are simply single images.

Final Project (Part 3-Not Printed)

These are images I did not print, they are not my favorites but they are alright.

Big Pano

Every Thursday I get on a bus and go up into the Wasatch. In the Winter and early Spring we go back country skiing. Many people do not understand the reason for back country skiing. It is a lot of hard work for great snow sometimes and crappy snow other times. People often ask my why in the world I would choose to do that to my self. With this picture I am trying to show why it is I love it so much. It is not just the backcountry skiing it is also the people I am with. This picture shows our group simply having fun together. Everyone was laughing and having a grat time outside in the snow. This is what I love so much about the outdoors. I love the fun I can have while working hard and learning skills. That is why I think this picture ended up so good; it shows what I really think about this activity.
The light really coorporated with me with this image. It was covered up with clouds because a storm was hitting the valley. That really helped this image because I wasn't shooting into the sun which could have been a BIG problem. This picture also concreted my love for Panoramas. It showed me how much fun panos could be to take.

Ansel Adams Photography

These are some of Ansel Adam's photographs from Yosemite Valley. These are of great interest to me because I am trying to take intersting landscapes. I have had a hard time making them look like I want them to. The image never turns out exactly right. One of the cool things with Ansel Adams is what he does with shadow. And the moon in this first one is awesome. The tree leaning to the side is really cool too. The shadows from the branches are awesome. I love Ansel Adam's images. They really make me feel like I was there.

What makes a Good Image

What makes a good image? This is a question we are asked a lot as photographers. A good image is not simply a pictures of something cool. A good image is really pretty simple. A good image is of something you love. Something you really care about. You have to be able to show that love in the image. You also have to think about time for a good image. You can't just go out at any time and shoot and assume it will work out well. You need to think about what the time is and make it unique. You don't want your image to look like everyone else's image. That is another thing that makes a good image, a unique perspective. A good photographer can make a good image out of anything. The image itself is not what makes a good image. It is all about how the photographer shoots the image. The easiest way to do this is get close and pay careful attention to detail. Things like focus, white balance, light and distracting back grounds. We all have the ability to make a good image, we just have to add together everything that we have learned.

Assignment 3

This was a pretty hard Assignment for me. Taking pictures every six hours was hard. I don't like the whole getting up in the middle of the night thing. I also had the ACT the weekend I shot this so that made it hard. But I ended up with a really cool image because of this. I loved my image of the stool. I think it showed me how much light really matters. Light can change an image completely. It was a good thing for me to learn.

Assignment 3- every 6 hours

I didn't print this one. I think it is pretty cool though. I took a lot of pictures of this light just playing around with it. I liked having a lot of choices.

I printed this image. I love love love this image. The light was perfect. The window was pretty hard because it was completely gone. But Slade waved his magic wand and brought it back. What an amazing man he is.

I printed this image. I thought it was just a fun image. These are Heather's feet... what cute socks!

I didn't print this one. I thought it was kind of fun though. The perspective was pretty cool.

Assignment 2

This was a pretty fun assignment. My ryming was that there is snow in every image. I thought it was a pretty cool idea. It was a lot of fun to shoot. I had fun, though my white balance was a little off. I will keep working on it.

Assignment 2- Rhyming

I printed this print. I had a hard time color correcting this one because it kepts turning out pink. And then when I took away the pink it became really green. I had a hard time, but I finally got it pretty close.

I didn't print this one. It is kind of a cool picture but it isn't my favorite.

I printed this image. I also love this image. It was hard to print but I think it is such a cool image. The ice just makes it look even cooler.

I printed this one. HAHA this image makes me laugh because it looks like a bunny. And yesterday was Easter... how perfect!

I printes this image. I like this image. I think the brown really brings out the snow. It makes me happy.

This image is not my favorite. But it is kind of cool. Not as cool as the others.

Slade, I am sorry

Today was a very difficult day for me in photo. I was already super stressed about other school things and other stressful matters. when I got to photo I was convinced I would catch up. wrong. I had trouble with my color correcting and then printing issues. I kind of freaked out. Mr. Slade I am afraid you got the worst of my freak out. I apologize. I should not have lost my patience. I will do better next time. Sorry!
And for all others who feel like having a freak out, I understand. Spring term before APs not fun. And if you don't feel like having a freak out, you will by this time next year. I promise!

Taiwan!!

This is an amazing sight on the coast.  This is a sight that appears in almost all of the history books in Taiwan.  It was a wonderful think to be able to see.
The orange building is a theater outside a big memorial in Taiwan.  It is for one of the main founders who came over from Chine looking for a safe place.  It was a really cool thing to get to see.  The actual memorial actually looked a lot like the Lincoln memorial.  I also think that the garden is beautiful.  Their landscaping was awesome.  Notice the sweet crazy tree on the right side of the image.
This is the side of the actual memorial.
Here is a closer look at the theater you see two images up.  I think their buildings are beautiful there.  The design was obviously well thought out for each building.
This is Taipai 101 in Taiwan.  This was once the world's tallest building.  I am not sure if it still is, I think there is another building being built that is taller.  But anyway it was way cool. I also think the clouds make it look even cooler.  This image doesn't make it look very tall because it is so zoomed in but it was VERY tall!

I think this image is so cool the way that the mountains are reflected around the bridge.  I also thought this bridge was absolutely beautiful. It is really hard to see here but it was red with really pretty designs on it.

Hey look this one is me! Natalie took this picture (her camera is broken so she used mine a lot). I think this lake is really pretty.  It was really serene and beautiful. Of course right after this picture two of the people out on one of the boats almost tipped their boat.  But still the picture looks serene! :)

Henri Cartier-Bresson

I love this picture. I think the light and set up of this picture is simply amazing. I also really like the pose the figure is holding. He looks like he is running towards someone or something. The question is what is he running to? Henri did not take a picture of where he was going, only where he came from. This really makes me think about where he is going and why.
The other great thing about this picture is how much is going on. This is a picture with a lot going on yet my eye is still drawn immediately to the dark figure. I think that is because of how much darker he is compared to the rest of the image.

This is another of Henri's pictures that I love. I think the set up of this image is absolutely stunning. The staircase leads your eye directly to the biker. Again in this image the main part of the photo is black causing it to stand out. Henri does a great job of keeping his images interesting yet not busy.

This image makes me laugh. I think it is so cute! My guess is that it is two little boys, but I do not know that for sure. This simply reminds me of childhood. I feel like Henri does a great job of capturing emotion.

Dear Mr. Slade: HELP!

I seem to be having a lot of problems lately, I think I might have made the photo fairies mad.  But anyway my camera is going crazy.  I just put new batteries in it and after I took like 4 pictures is told me I had a low battery.  I tried putting two more new batteries in, and it said the same thing.  Then it stopped taking pictures when i pushed the button.   I swear it is possessed. Luckily I have most of the assignment done.  I will be bring my camera tomorrow so that you can heal it with your healing powers!

Dear Mr. Slade

In the assignment you tell us to use the histogram. How do we do that?! You never educated us on this part of the camera.  I think I will consult my sister but I feel silly having to ask my younger sister this information. I guess I will suck it up and lower myself! Here goes nothing...

Hey Mr. Slade

Hey there!!
You asked me to write you a note, so here it is! You asked me to talk to you about fall term and so here you go! My big problem last term was printing. I didn't feel confident in myself to print things correctly. It was hard for me to see the colors and I could never really tell what I liked and what I didn't. Once I corrected them and got them printed I liked what I did. The hard part was just figuring it how much to color correct and what to use.
Hopefully I will get better this term. I have full confidence that eventually it will come!
